Download of the Day: Public Enemy, "Burn Hollywood Burn"
I admit I’ve slowed down posting new downloads lately. Been rediscovering that writing on an assigned topic, even when topic is damn fine music, has not been one of my strongest skills since leaving college.
(This is misleading because it wasn’t even when I was in college, but pay that no nemmine.)
For that matter I admit I’ve slowed down on posting much of any content here, period. Last week I launched a new version of my regular blog and this one’s become the redheaded stepchild for the time being.
Example: meant to put this MP3 up a week ago Friday in honor of the PE’s set at Auditorium Shores, even if I had no plans to get there myself. Not that a week really matters in this context: “Hollywood” is, like the rest of Fear of a Black Planet, just as roiling and timely as it was in 1990. 911 is even more of a joke, Spike Lee got pushed aside by Wayans-like buffoons, and who has any idea who Robert Townsend is anymore?
OTOH, Ice Cube (doing a way pre-Hood cameo here, along with Big Daddy Kane) got a good one over on Hollywood by becoming a marquee draw. So some things do change. Alas that the necessity for Chuck D. isn’t one of them.
